5-Storey Building Collapses in Raigad, Maharashtra

A five-story building in Raigad Mahad tehsil collapses, 17 people have been reported to be injured and more than 70 are feared to be trapped. This happened on the evening of Monday. Three NDRF teams from Pune have been dispatched to the location.

The recently collapses building in Raigad, which was said to be 10 years old, housed more than 40 apartments. As said by the Raigad district collector, Nidhi Chaudhari, A few people rushed outside the building to a safe spot after the first three floors collapsed.

The incident took place approximately around 6:50 pm when the building in the Kajalpura area collapsed, said The National Disaster Response Force. “Rescue teams have been moved with all necessary CSSR equipment, canine squad, etc” they added.

An official stated that the injured have been taken to a hospital. The Maharashtra state cabinet minister Aditi Tatkare stated that the local rescue teams are already on the site where the incident occurred and also stated that additional teams of NDRF from Pune are on their way.

CM Uddhav Thackeray spoke to MLA Bharat Gogawale and collector Nidhi Chaudhary about the entire situation and to investigate the incident that took place. Any amount of possible support was assured by him for quick and speedy rescue and relief works.

The Incident was described as tragic by Home Minister Amit Shah, he also added that he has spoken to the Director-General of the disaster response force and requested them to provide all possible help and assistance as soon as possible.

Due to the heavy rainfall across India in monsoon season, living in large and old buildings become more and more dangerous to live in.
