Aashiqui star Rahul Roy suffers brain stroke, admitted in ICU

The heartthrob of 1990s, Rahul Roy has been admitted in a hospital after suffering a brain stroke during his film shoot.

The lead in Mahesh Bhatt’s Aashiqui was airlifted, according to sources from Kargil where he was shooting for LAC- Live The Battle, and brought to Srinagar from where he was rushed to the Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai for admitting in the ICU.

His co-star in the movie, Nishant Malkani, said that the extreme weather conditions, rising to a peak -15 degree in Kargil, might have triggered his health. He said on last Tuesday the actor had started behaving a bit dull while also not being able to deliver his lines properly. Nishant added that when the 55-year-old actor began acting unusual, “idhar udhar dekhne laga and we strongly sensed that something was wrong.”

As the director of the movie was an MBBS doctor, the CT scan reports received post his checkup in the military hospital led him to decipher the problem as a serious matter. Post this, he was airlifted to Srinagar on Thursday and immediately taken to Mumbai for admission in Nanavati Hospital.

However, Romeer Roy, the actor’s brother while confirming the brain stroke, said that Rahul is “recovering”. He added that his brother was admitted 2 days back, post returning from the shoot. “He is safe and recovering well. The recovery will take time,” Romeer said.

Rahul Roy is playing the role of a Colonel in the Kargil movie which necessitated his presence in 6 scenes, majority of which are completed till now. Directed by Nitin Kumar Gupta and jointly produced by Chitra Vakil Sharma and Nivedita Basu, the digital film, LAC-Live The Battle stars Nishant Singh Malkhani in the lead role.

After 2 days, the crew will complete their 17 –day long shoot schedule in the freezing cold location.

Rahul Roy had taken a long break from the film industry as he did not get excited with the films that were being offered to him, the actor said earlier, prior to the tragedy, in an interview with a media house. He added that walking away from the industry was merely his choice and nothing related to the film fraternity itself. The former Bigg Boss contestant also said that he wasn’t growing as an actor back then as similar kind of film offers were knocking at his door along with a couple of other reasons.

The actor took up the Bigg Boss offer in 2006 which led him to win the show ultimately. After getting overnight stardom with Aashiqui, the actor brought in Sapne Sajan Ke, Naseeb, Junoon, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee and TV serials like Karishma, Kaise Kahoon and others to his kitty.

Rahul has also started his own production house called Rahul Roy Productions post his break.
