Actress Saira Banu admitted in ICU in same hospital where Dilip Kumar died

Three days after getting admitted to the hospital, veteran actress Saira Banu, wife of late actor Dilip Kumar, has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as her condition deteriorated.

The actor was moved to the Hinduja Hospital of Mumbai, the same hospital where her husband breathed his last, a couple of days back due to blood-pressure related problems. She was admitted about a month after Dilip Kumar passed away from age-related issues. He was 98 years old.

The update was given by the 77-year-old actor’s family friend who mentioned the hospital name and the reason for her hospitalization.

Saira Banu had been beside her husband at all times during his days. She was visibly very depressed after he died a month back. She would regularly share his health updates on Twitter to keep everyone informed of his status. In one of her tweets, she had also thanked God for his “infinite mercy on Dilip Sahab that his health was improving”. However, shortly after, the ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ actor passed away.

After his death, social media was flooded with pictures of grieving Saira Banu beside the mortal remains of Dilip Kumar. Several Bollywood celebrities and politicians had reached the actor’s house to pay tribute and give condolences to her. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was also one of the people to pay his condolences. Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Dharmendra, Anupam Kher, Vidya Balan and others had also come to meet her.

Saira Banu entered Bollywood with her debut in the film ‘Junglee’ co-starring Shammi Kapoor. During her time, she was one of the highest-paid actresses in the industry. She got married to Dilip Kumar, with an age gap of 22 years between them, in 1966 after she had gained stardom. Though the two did not have any children, Dilip Kumar had revealed years back that they were going to have a son who died in the 8th month of gestation. The doting wife Saira Banu remained with her husband during all his hospital trips. “It is out of love and not duress that I look after Dilip Saab. I am not looking for praises to be called a devoted wife. Just to touch him and cuddle him is the world’s best thing that’s happening to me. I adore him and he is my breath itself,” she had said.
