Adityanath permits entry of Congress sponsored migrant buses in UP after refusing it earlier

New Delhi/Mathura: 1000 Congress buses carrying migrants was finally given permission by the UP government to enter the borders of Uttar Pradesh after 2 days. Adityanath government had earlier denied permission to the buses which were stalled at the UP border, with thousands of migrants waiting to go home.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi said that the government has accepted the request made by Priyanka Gandhi on May 16 to the CM about migrant workers’ buses, in a letter addressed to the Congress leader. It added, “Hence, without any further delay it is requested to provide the list carrying details of buses along with their drivers and conductors.”

The letter also asked Priyanka Gandhi to furnish a list containing the details of the buses ferrying the migrant workers; bus numbers, driver contact numbers, etc.

After the buses weren’t permitted to enter UP by Yogi, Priyanka Gandhi posted a video on Twitter appealing the UP government not to involve politics in this matter.

“Respected Prime Minister, I’m requesting you. This is not the time for politics. Our buses are waiting at the border. Our migrant brothers and sisters are taking a lot of trouble, walking barefoot to their homes on an empty stomach. We should help them. Give permission to our buses,” Priyanka Gandhi captioned the video she posted on her twitter handle. https://twitter.com/priyankagandhi/status/1261966992723959808.

About 980 buses had returned to Bharatpur, Alwar and other parts of Rajasthan after UP government did not allow them to enter into the state. The Congress had decided to submit a fresh application to meet Yogi Adityanath.

After the UP government had said that they did not get the list of the buses from the Congress, the party leaders said they will give the list to the chief minister’s office on Monday and the same was mentioned in the letter of allowance.

“From last three days, Priyanka Gandhiji has been writing to the UP CM to allow buses in the state, but permission was not granted and after 12 hours the buses had to return,” said UP Congress leader and former Union Minister Jitin Prasada.

Around 400 buses had reached Bahaj Goverdhan border and it was said that migrant labourers are in the bus on Sunday.

Priyanka Gandhi had arranged 500 buses to take migrants from Rajasthan’s Alwar and Bharatpur but the Congress had not got permission from the UP government to enter the state. Adityanath had brushed it off, refusing her plea and criticizing it in the name of politics.

On Saturday, Priyanka Gandhi had written to the chief minister to give permission to ply 1000 buses for the migrants after the tragic accident in Auriyya where 24 migrants got killed. “Lakhs of workers are trying to get back to their homes while walking from various parts of the country and there are not enough arrangements made for them. We wish to operate 500 buses each from Ghazipur and Noida borders,” Priyanka Gandhi had said in the letter to Yogi Adityanath.
