Aftermath of 2 parties- 103 people test positive in a Bengaluru apartment

Despite the pandemic in its full swing, many seem to have chosen to ignore the reality and the severity of the situation as normal social lives have resumed. As a repercussion of similar actions, an entire complex in Bengaluru has been declared as a containment zone following 103 residents testing positive for covid-19.

The incident took place just days after 2 anniversary parties were organized in the Bengaluru apartment where many marked their attendance.

The event has been reported from SNN Raj Lakeview apartment located in Bilekhali area of Karnataka’s capital, Bengaluru.

The news surfaced after a group of people got tested for the virus before starting their trip to Dehradun. Following the emergence of dozens of cases from the same apartment over a time span of just a few days, thauthorities of the district immediately began a testing drive across the apartment where 1,190 people reside.

“We saw a sudden upsurge in the number of cases – on February 11th, 7 cases were reported, on February 12th, 17 cases were reported. On February 13th, the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) rushed to the apartment to investigate further and ramp up testing…399 houses were surveyed. 1,190 people were tested out of which 103 have tested positive. One out of 103 is admitted to the hospital,” a senior district official was quoted saying by NDTV, while adding, “We were informed that there were two anniversary parties that took place on the 6th and 7th of February.”

Dr Krishnappa, the chief medical officer probing the area said that majority of the infected patients are aged below 50 years and are asymptomatic. One of the 103 is hospitalized while the others are under quarantine.

Though India recorded over one lakh cases in 2020, the curve seems to be plunging as the nation is witnessing cases below 10,000 since the past few days. In a statement last month, the central government had said that India managed to flatten the curve despite being the country with the second-highest number of infections after the US.

However, it is even more vital now to remain alert and continue the use of masks, sanitizations and social distancing, experts and the government said as the mutant strains of other countries have entered India.

After Maharashtra and Kerala, Karnataka is the worst-hit state with covid-19.
