Allahabad HC asks UP govt to check covid-19 protocols in Magh Mela

The High court of Allahabad has asked the government of Uttar Pradesh to submit the ‘foolproof’ plan through which it has intended to check the corona spread during the annual Magh mele which was scheduled to begin on 14 of January.

The Uttar Pradesh chief secretary had informed the court before the court order came that people will be allowed to enter the Magh Mela area after they have produced the negative covid -19 report.

A division bench which comprises of justice Siddhartha Varma and justice Ajit Kumar after reviewing the instruction submitted by the state government has said that they are not convinced by the steps taken by the state government will be sufficient to stop the spread of covid-19.

The High court of Allahabad has directed the state government to come up with the ‘foolproof plan’ by which they can control the spread of covid-19.

The High court of Allahabad has said that “They (government) may keep in mind that such congregations during the month of Magh are very large in numbers and if even one infected person sneaks inside the city, he can create havoc.”.

The Magh Mela is the annual festival that is held in the month of Magh (January/February) in Prayagraj.

The Magh Mela attracts many large numbers of tourists and pilgrims every year who look forward to washing their sins off in the holy river, the Mela is carried out for a period of 45 days.

The government of Uttar Pradesh has said that they will ensure the necessary safety protocols and social distance in the Mela.
