Amit Shah Visits Bengal: Can Sense Massive Public Anger Against the Mamata Banerjee Government

Expressing that he can sense “massive public anger against the Mamata Banerjee government” in West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday stated that the days of the Trinamool Congress government are numbered and that the BJP will come into power with a two-thirds majority win in the Assembly polls in the next year.

West Bengal is planned to go to the polls in the following six months.

He stated, “I want to appeal to the public of Bengal to uproot the TMC government and give the BJP a chance to form the next government. We will change the state into Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal).”

On a two-day visit to the state, Shah arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday night and showed up in Bankura, on the western part of the state, on Thursday early afternoon. He started his visit by garlanding the statue of Birsa Munda, a freedom fighter who originated from the Munda tribe. Munda is an icon among the individuals of the area, including neighboring districts and in Bihar and Jharkhand.

Bankura has a huge concentration of individuals from tribal communities, and the BJP had won both Parliamentary seats in the region in 2019.

Amit Shah said “I am in West Bengal since last night and can sense the massive public anger against the Mamata Banerjee government. We are sure of bringing in change in the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Banerjee government has ended benefits of Central schemes reaching the tribal people, the poor, the farmers, and people from the backward classes in Bengal”, Shah said to Media.

He included, “The tribal people of Bengal are not getting the benefit of housing schemes started by the Centre. The poor are not receiving healthcare schemes and the farmers are not receiving the annual aid of Rs 6,000. If you (Banerjee) let these people enjoy the advantages of these schemes, they may at least spare few thoughts for you.”

Following the garlanding ceremony, Shah conducted an internal meeting with party workers and heads from 13 areas to chalk out plans for the following year’s Vidhan Sabha polls.

Afterward, the Home Minister had lunch at the home of party worker Bibhishan Hansda in tribal-dominated Chaturdihi village, close to Bankura town. He was joined by Lok Sabha MP and West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh, Union minister Debashree Chaudhuri, party’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, public VP Mukul Roy, party MP Saumitra Khan and senior head Rahul Sinha, among others.

The Hansda family offered Shah a traditional Bengali vegetarian meal and Shah spent some time with them.

Shah later got back to Rabindra Bhawan in Bankura town for another round of meetings with different social groups and individuals from civil society. After the meeting, Shah furthermore met senior officials of the CRPF.
