Andhra fire incident: Death toll rises to 9

Vijayawada: The death toll of the incident of fire in Andhra Pradesh rises to 9 as another two people have died. 7 people have died on the spot while two others succumbed while undergoing treatment. The Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed shock over the accident and announced Rs 50 lakh compensation to the kith and kin of those killed in the accident. Chief Minister directed the higher officials to ensure better treatment for the injured. Collector said an investigation was underway.

Over 9 people have died in a fire accident that took place in a hotel of a Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh this morning. This Swarna Palace hotel used by Private Ramesh Hospital as the COVID Care Center. Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the blaze. There are over 40 people in the hotel at the time of the incident. Of these, 30 were COVID‌ victims and 10 were hospital staff. According to the reports reached here, Victims screamed through the windows, struggling to breathe due to the thick smoke. The victims are being shifted to Labbipeta, Metropolitan Hotel Kovid Care Centers. Support activities are in full swing at Swarna Palace. Four people jumped from one floor.

The smoke from the fire spread like wildfire, causing panic in the building. Fires broke out on the ground floor and first floors and immediately Smoke spread to other floors. Four people jumped down from the first floor to save themselves. Police and firefighters smashed windowpanes and brought several people down with the help of a ladder.

Police pointed out that the accident took place in the early hours of the morning. Talking to the media CP Vijayawada Srinivasan said that the incident occurred due to a short circuit. He said the victims could not be brought through the stairwell of the building. They were taken down with the help of the ladder and shifted to other hospitals.

A large no of people have gathered near the hotel after knowing about this incident and the news was spread like a forest fire in the various social media platforms.
