Hyderabad is likely to have a second cable-stayed bridge along Mir Alam tank in the Old City after the Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge proved to be a hugely popular spot.
It will be the second such bridge built in Telangana’s capital, the first being across Durgam Cheruvu, once referred to as Hyderabad’s Secret Lake.
The iconic Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge was constructed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and inaugurated by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, which has become a landmark for the city’s residents and tourists. There is no doubt that it is one of the most photographed spots in the city.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is now planning a similar cable-stayed bridge along the Mir Alam tank.
As for the Mir Alam Tank bridge, officials said it will be 2.5 kilometers long and have six lanes. The central span of the bridge will be 350 meters, and the pylons will be 100 meters high. As part of the DMart-Gurudwara-Kishanbagh-Bahadurpura Crossroads route, the bridge will connect the Bengaluru National Highway with Chintalmet near Attapur.

Bridge to ease traffic
HMDA officials said the bridge will not only ease traffic and make commuting easier for many but also provide an excellent view of the water body.
Once the Mir Alam Tank bridge is built, traffic congestion on the busy Bengaluru National Highway-Chintalmet route is expected to ease. As a result of this bridge, officials say Old City will also see an increase in tourism. It is expected that there will be fewer issues related to land acquisition for this project.

It is worth noting that in September 2020, KTR launched the Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge and Hyderabadis enjoy a variety of musical and cultural programs on weekends when traffic is suspended on the bridge. Tourism in the city has been greatly boosted by the bridge.
