“Arrest me if you’ve real power, coward”- Tejashwi Yadav challenges Nitish Kumar

In view of the farmers’ protest against the controversial new farm laws of India, Tejashwi Yadav from the Rashtriya Janata Dal party of Bihar extended his support to the hands that have bruised in feeding the nation.

The Nitish Kumar government, that returned to power for the second term weeks back 23following the election results, lodged an FIR against Mr. Yadav for protesting in solidarity with the farmers.

However, the RJD leader has challenged the Bihar government of arresting him after the First Information Report was filed while also calling Nitish Kumar, a “coward”.

Apart from Mr. Yadav, the friend-turned-rival’s administration has filed a case against 18 others belonging to different constituents of the Grand Alliance-led opposition party of Bihar, reason being their participation in protests for supporting the farmers without the permission of the government amidst the pandemic.

In response to the charges pressed against him, Mr. Yadav dared the CM to arrest him if he has “any real power”

The leader posted his statement on Twitter saying, “The government of Bihar, led by a cowardly chief minister, has lodged an FIR against us for raising the voice of the farmers. If you have any real power, then arrest us. If you do not, I will surrender myself. I am ready to be hanged for farmers.”

The RJD also slammed the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) government for resorting to wild ways of arresting him by booking Mr. Yadav under “false pretexts” as he expressed his supporting stance to the farmers protesting the chilly climate of Delhi for over 10 days now.

The party claimed, “The Bihar government has shown its two-faced character by using false and shallow pretexts to book Tejashwi Yadav for standing with the farmers and protesting in their support. For farmers, we are not scared of even a thousand such FIRs.”

Prior to these charges, the RJD had tweeted a picture allegedly from the meeting of BJP in the party’s office on Saturday where the term “social distancing” were far from getting registered amongst the members. BJP leaders hadn’t even worn masks, the mandatory medium to protect oneself from the virus set as a regulatory guideline by the government.

More importantly, the meeting also showcased the presence of the Health Minister himself, Mangal Pandey along with the other attendees of the party.

RJD criticized the party, merged with Nitish Kumar to form an alliance in Bihar, of aiming to raise questions at other parties for carrying out protests while they themselves staying aware of the physical distancing and other norms during a pandemic.

Even though the opposition parties did not receive any permission, they conducted a protest at Gandhi Maidan in capital Patna on Saturday. During the rally, they pledged to safeguard “at any cost the interest of farmers across the country”.

Followed with this was the announcement of their support in the nationwide strike, called by the farmers’ associations to be held on December 8th, Tuesday.

The Nitish Kumar government lodged Mr. Yadav and 500 other unidentified people under different sections of the IPC.
