As Ward No.28 by-poll battle begins people clamour for civic issues

The upcoming by-election of Ward No.28 under Jalpally Municipal Council brings the TRS party at loggerhead with alliance partner AIMIM as both the parties are fielding their candidates against each other in the poll battle while the people keep clamouring of lack basic civic amenities especially the water shortage issue.

Out of total 13 Municipal wards in the entire Rangareddy district – where the municipal elections are going to be held soon, the Ward No.28 under Jalpally Municipality is the only one on the city outskirts which is gearing up to face the hustling while the remaining 12 wards are from newly constituted Corporation of Kothur almost 10 kilometers away from the city.

The process of inclusion, deletion and correction of names in the municipal electoral roll has begun and scheduled to be completed on or before 13th of April, the proposed day of Election Notification.

As the MIM councilor Nazia Begum passes away on 1st May last year at the age of 55, the by-election of the Ward No. 28 became inevitable and with the release of notification for preparation of electoral rolls, the hustings begins in the area with both alliance partners in the government such as MIM and TRS have thrown their hats into ring.

Tahseen Begum a 25 year old daughter in law of former councilor Nazia Begum is the new face of MIM contesting from the ward as the seat has been reserved under women (General) category.

On the other hand, Mohd Shaker Baig said to be the prospective candidate from TRS party who received defeat twice in the past. However, there is one more name of Syed Abdul Rouf doing rounds from TRS party as he recently joined the pink fold from Congress party.

Only a few meters of walk from Barkas cross road there exists the Sadat Nagar area which together with few surrounding neighbourhoods and part of Shaheen Nagar forms a complete circle of Ward No.28 with just 2578 electors currently enrolled under the electoral roll of the ward.

This ward is a predominant part of Maheshwaram Constituency represented by Minister of Education Sabitha Indra Reddy and Member of Parliament Ranjit Reddy. However, owing to its vast Muslim population, the ward was won by MIM in the last election.

Though the ward is represented by both the alliance partners in the government such as MIM and TRS the people are of the view that there were several issues still hunting them since years especially the perennial problem of water scarcity.

“We were facing acute water shortage here as there is no proper tab water line available here to quench the thirst. We are largely relying on the bore well we have in our houses. For the drinking purpose we largely count on buying the water from outside. More so, the issue of no proper roads and unused sewerage lines also need to be addressed,” murmurs a woman who does not want to be named.

“The situation has somehow improved in recent years. Leaders from both the parties are making efforts to fix the issues but they have their own equations. What we need most is the adequate supply of water which remains a core issue since years,” said Waheed, a local resident.

“No doubt there are few areas that don’t have the proper water supply but whatever the development is appearing on the ground is the sole effort maneuvered by our party. We have roads and sewerage lines under the ground. Out of the entire ward, only 10 percent of the area with merely 150 or 200 households is facing water shortage. We are making relentless efforts to provide ample supply of water to our electors wiliest the leaders representing the assembly and parliamentary segments takes no pain yet to provide a single drop of development,” claimed Mohammed Mahboob Ali, whose daughter-in-law Tahseen Begum seeking mandate by representing the AIMIM party.
