Asaduddin Owaisi demands Centre to withdraw Agnipath scheme

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday called the Agnipath scheme a ‘wrong decision’, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi must withdraw the Army recruitment policy, in the same way he revoked three farm laws earlier.

“The Agnipath scheme is an absolutely wrong decision made by the Government and it is not beneficial to the country. According to PM Modi, our Navy officers and soldiers are contractual employees or contractual lecturers, but their profession is honourable,” Asaduddin Owaisi said.

In a sharp criticism of the Prime Minister over the Agnipath scheme, he said that the youth have turned to the streets because of his erroneous decision.

“To ensure the security and youth of the country, PM Modi should also revoke the Agnipath Scheme decision, just like he revoked the farm and land laws,” Asaduddin Owaisi argued.

Asaduddin Owaisi earlier on Friday urged PM Modi to take responsibility for the “reckless decision.”

The AIMIM chief took to Twitter and said: Sir @PMOIndia Please Stop hiding behind military chiefs, Mr Modi. Have the guts to take ownership of your reckless decision and face the consequences. The anger of the youth of the country about their future is directed at you and only at you.

An effort to bring about a change in the recruitment process for the Armed Forces was launched by the government on June 14. With the new military recruitment scheme facing a backlash from the opposition, the government decided to change the age limit.

A joint protest against the Agnipath Recruitment Scheme will be held at Jantar Mantar on June 20 in the national capital, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said on Friday.

There have been protests in several parts of the country against the new recruitment scheme in the Armed Forces, and the agitators are demanding the withdrawal of Agnipath. In some places, trains were set on fire, and one protester died.

As reported by the Railways, more than 200 trains have been disrupted because of the protests against Agnipath.
