Biden Urges Americans to be Safe During Holiday, Battle COVID-19 Pandemic

: On Wednesday, U.S. President-elect Joe Biden urged Americans to take steps to remain protected as COVID-19 cases rise on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday and vowed again to focus on fighting the pandemic when he takes office in January.

“We have to try to slow the growth of the virus. We owe that to the doctors, the nurses, and the other front-line health care workers who have risked so much and heroically battled this virus for so long,” Biden stated in his Thanksgiving message to the country ahead of a long weekend that customarily includes large family gatherings and a burst of cross-country travel.

Biden vowed to “change the course of the infection” not long after his inauguration, on January 20, 2021.

He said that more testing will find people with cases and get them away from other people, slowing the number of infections. More protective gear for schools and businesses will do the same and reducing the number of cases. Clear guidance will get more schools and more businesses open.

Biden kept it at an upbeat tone in spite of the looming cases of a “dark winter” that medical specialists have cautioned about.

He stated: “I know we can and we will beat this virus. America is not going to lose this war. You will get your lives back. Life is going to return to normal. That will happen. This will not last forever.”

Biden said that in his own family, a major Thanksgiving is off the table as a result of the pandemic.

When Biden spoke on Wednesday afternoon, over 4 million individuals had already gone through airport checkpoints beginning last Friday.

Hospitals in various states are at limit and doctors are getting ready for the worst spike in cases the entire year, post-Thanksgiving. America leads the world in COVID-19 cases and deaths.
