BJP launches “Namami Musi River” program

Vikarabad: State BJP president Dr.K Laxman today launched a long-term “Namami Musi River” (NMR) program to mount pressure on the TRS government to take measures for effective abatement of pollution and its conservation and creating awareness among the people. He performed puja at Anantagiri in the district in the presence of a large number of people, including party workers.

Addressing the gathering, Laxman exhorted people to keep the river, which is also known as “Telangana Ganga” clean. Hyderabad’s once-mighty river has been reduced to a giant sewer due to indiscriminate urbanization and lack of proper planning besides open for untreated domestic and industrial waste. There was a need to inculcate a spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had launched a project to clean “the historic and sacred Ganga”. He alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao did not keep his word of continuing the agitation till the government cleaned the Musi river which flows through five districts in the State were affected and suffering from various diseases due to pollution in the Musi river.

Taking a dig at CM KCR, Laxman alleged that the CM had promised to clean the picturesque polluted Hussain Sagar and filled with coconut water. But the Hussain Sagar was getting polluted more due to industrial wastages as the government failed to control major industries, who are dumping wastage in nalas which directly connected to Hussain Sagar. “Promise and Forget” is the theory of KCR to make people fool, Laxman lamented and warned that the BJP would continue the agitation till the government fulfilled its promise of cleaning the Musi. Laxman said his party would organize a program at Bapughat in Langerhouse and later go to Tankbund on Monday and its workers would cut coconuts. As part of the NMR agitation program, party leaders would visit the Musi at Suryapet on December 17.

Former MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Vikarabad district party president Prahlad Rao, Bhongir district past president and Musi Prakshalana committee chairman Sham Sunder Rao, State party secretary Papa Rao, spokesperson N V Subhash, vice-president S Malla Reddy, Shanti Kumar, and Media in-charge Sudhakar Sharma were also present.
