Budget schools seek ‘relaxation balm’ before reopening of schools

As the government appears to be contemplating to reopen schools in the state without specifying any date, the representatives of budget schools wrote pushes their demand again before the government seeking certain relaxation to that, according to them is necessary to put their institutions in order.

Seeking relaxation in electricity bills, water bills and property taxes, The Telangana Private Schools Forum (TPSF) asked the government to look into the matter at least to bail out private schools that have languished into financial crises ever since the pandemic broke out.

In his letter to Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao, the President of Telangana Private Schools Forum (TPSF) Akther Shareef reiterated that “The low budget private recognized unaided schools are not in a position to perform as usual as the pandemic leaves a trickle-down effect on the survival of these institutions. Contrary to the situation being faced by the private budget schools, the government has issued an order to private school managements asking not to enhance the tuition fee for the academic year 2020-2021 nor do collect any other fee except the tuition fee from the students playing down the situation wherein the schools are smarting under.”

“Since the tuition fee collected from the students is not at all sufficient to pay the salaries to the staff, the contingency expenditure somewhat met from the quantum of the fee being collected other than the regular fee. Building rent, maintenance, electricity charges, water charges, property taxes and profession taxes etc are some of the compulsive spending being met through fees being collected from the students under non-tuition fee category,” he explained.

He also wrote a similar letter to the Commissioner and Director of School Education (CDSE) bringing the plight of the budget schools into the notice of the authorities at the helm of affairs.

It is pertinent to mention here that, there are a total of 10,984 recognized budget schools in the entire Telangana state wherein around 33 lakh students are enrolled. Only 5 districts such as Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal, Vicarabad, and Sangareddy have 4,500 budget schools wherein 16 lakhs students are pursuing their academics.

Meanwhile, there is no clarity yet came up over the date of physical reopening of the schools in the state as people acquainted with the affairs said it is colossally improbable in the next two weeks or till 5th of January 2021.
