Checks on late-night drunken driving resumed by Hyderabad Traffic Police

Hyderabad Traffic Police are reported to have resumed the routine nighttime drunk driving checks in the city and are planning to continue doing so. This was mostly slowed down during the pandemic.

“Checks for drunk driving are being conducted, particularly late at night, to reduce road accidents. The persons caught during the check will be produced in court,” said Joint Commissioner of Police AV Ranganath.

This initiative was also taken to curb road accidents during the night. The traffic personnel will install illuminated barricades at 104 blackspots on 50 stretches, which will slow down traffic.

Thanks to the ‘Speed Claiming Measures’, the city has seen a decrease in road accidents and deaths in road accidents in the past two months.

The traffic personnel will be manning the junctions until the early hours of the morning in order to monitor visible violations like stop-line crossings, signal jumping, and other potentially dangerous situations.

As part of the plan, all major junctions in the city will be closed overnight. “This will definitely reduce the number of traffic accidents. The Secretariat Junction experiment has already been successful. We are planning to implement the same at other junctions as well,” an officer said.

“We will file charge sheets in court against violators from June onwards. Air horns are one of the factors contributing to noise pollution,” AV Ranganath said after inaugurating a summer camp for children at the Traffic Training Institute, Goshamahal.

Children who will be attending the camp will be taught about traffic laws and road safety. In addition to this, martial arts classes and personality development programs will be offered.
