CM directs officials to lend helping hand to BCs

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed the officials concerned that for strengthening the Backward Classes economically, financial assistance shall be extended through self-employment schemes, district wise, throughout the State. He said the list of eligible persons requiring financial assistance at the district level be prepared. He also said small traders and those who are into hereditary professions be given financial assistance directly with 100% subsidy delinking with banks.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting in Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday morning for welfare of the Backward Classes. “Financial assistance should be extended towards investment support to those who are into hereditary professions for purchase of essential tools and those who are into small trades from among the Backward Classes. For this, the beneficiaries should be identified village-wise. In every district, committees should be formed with Collector as Chairman, BC welfare officer as convener and Joint Collector and PD DRDA as members. Once the beneficiaries’ list was prepared, it should be followed with financial assistance. This has to be delinked with the banks and directly assistance should be given to the beneficiaries. Funds allocated to BC welfare department and MBC Corporation have to be utilized for the purpose”, the Chief Minister ordered.

The Chief Minister said his government has initiated and implementing several programs for the uplift of the Backward Classes and Residential schools have been started on a large scale. From next year, in addition to the existing schools, 119 more residential schools will be opened. Vacant seats in the Minorities residential schools, if any, will also be allotted to BC students. “Every effort should be made to provide quality education to the BC children”, he added.

The Chief Minister said with reopening of toddy shops and abolition of tax, toddy tappers are benefited and the government was prepared to take some more decisions for the welfare of toddy tappers after studying the issues concerning them. He pointed out that 65 lakh sheep have already been distributed to Yadavas to strengthen them financially. Similarly fish culture was benefiting Mudiraj and gangaputra communities as well as other fishermen, he said. “The Padmashalis are benefited after initiating welfare measures for the handloom sector and a number of BCs are depending upon hereditary profession and require a helping hand. The Viswakarmas, Rajakas, Nayibrahmins and other MBC castes will be provided financial assistance. The BCs belonging to hereditary professions, small traders, those in marketing of fruits, vegetables, flowers as well as other similar trades will be identified and extended financial assistance”, the CM informed.
