“Coronavirus chapter be made part of school syllabus”- Rajasthan Health Minister

Jaipur: Covid-19 and the tale of its disastrous effects can be known and learnt by the future generation of the country as the Health Minister of Rajasthan has proposed to introduce its chapter in the school curriculum. Raghu Sharma suggested the government to let our descendants become more aware of the tremendous ill-effects of the disease of 2020 and the measures the society undertook to tackle the deadly virus by making it a part of the syllabus.

“Students should be made aware of the times we went through during the lockdown. This was first pandemic outbreak reported in the world in over 100 years and hence its documentation should be done for the coming generations to remain prepared for future challenges which we wish should never come,” Sharma said on Saturday.

He highlighted the time when Spanish flu had taken over the world and how its documentation would prove to be of great use to the present world if experts had done so.

“Had the Spanish flu reported in 1920 been documented and a book available on it, we could have learned the tips and tricks to fight the health challenge. Now, we need to have books for the newer generation to know how we fought the COVID-19 epidemic and how society combated the challenge unitedly and stayed in a lockdown for months.”

Mr Sharma praised the state health department for helping reach the recovery percentile of COVID-19 patients to 80% as the number of tests conducted per day rose to more than 41,000, powered with enhanced arrangements of the government for the residents.

Out of total 19,256 cases in the state, 15,352 have fought the virus successfully, recovered and have been sent home safe and sound.

He further spoke about the plans of the state. The minister said that more than 50,000 tests will be carried out every day in the near future. Moreover, he informed the media that patients were recovering at a good rate at the government-built institutional quarantine centres and through quarantine advised at home.

The Health Minister said that when the state’s first corona case came to light, the sample was sent to Pune laboratory for testing. Speaking about Rajasthan’s measures to fight the virus, Mr. Sharma said that the state has made all necessary arrangements at different places. He further added that around 9 lakh samples of people have been taken for testing virus.

The entire attention of the government is on sampling so that corona does not spread, he said. As testing is far and wide considered as the major weapon in the battle against covid-19, Mr. Sharma said that Rajasthan is directing its attention towards the testing procedures and maximize it.

Currently, the state of Rajasthan has over 19,052 cases with close to 450 fatalities.
