Customer writes to Swiggy saying they do not want a Muslim delivery person

Apparently, food has a religion, as an instruction from Swiggy customer in Hyderabad demonstrates. According to the customer, a Muslim delivery boy should not deliver his order through a food aggregator.

A screenshot of the instruction mentioned by the customer was shared with Swiggy by Shaik Salauddin, chairman of Telangana State Taxi and Drivers JAC. As of yet, no response has been received from the food aggregator.

Similarly, another delivery boy in Hyderabad faced the same problem

This isn’t the first time such an incident occurred, a Swiggy customer in Hyderabad refused to accept food from a Muslim delivery boy. As part of the instructions, the customer had stated, “Very less spicy.”. And, please select Hindu delivery person. All ratings will be based on this.’

The Swiggy customer in Hyderabad refused to accept his food order since a Muslim man was delivering it. During the ordering process, the customer requested for a Hindu delivery executive.

Swiggy was not the only food delivery service to encounter this type of customer. Zomato also encountered such situations.

Zomato’s CEO and founder, Deepinder Goyal, had tweeted at that point, “We are proud to be able to work with such diverse customers and partners.”. We aren’t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values.”

This incident occurred In Jabalpur a few years back, Faiyaz, a Zomato food delivery executive, completed an order placed by Amit Shukla. In reply, Shukla tweeted that the designated rider wasn’t a Hindu, and that he would have to cancel his order placed on Zomato..

“Just canceled an order on @ZomatoIN they allocated a non-hindu rider for my food they said they can’t change rider and can’t refund on cancellation I said you can’t force me to take a delivery I don’t want don’t refund just cancel,” Shukla tweeted.

Yet, the company refused to make any changes to the delivery executive. It is no secret that Swiggy and Zomato are popular food aggregators in Hyderabad. The meals of thousands of people, particularly techies from other districts, are provided by these aggregators.

A situation like this results in not only business damage but also controversy as a result of these requests made by a few of their customers.
