CV Anand holds meeting with HC Chief Justice, discusses Ganesh immersion

In connection with the high court orders banning the immersion of POP-made idols in Hussain Sagar, city police commissioner CV Anand met with Telangana high court chief justice Ujjal Bhuyan on Monday evening.

The meeting was held from 5 PM to 6 PM in the evening. Sources say the city police chief informed the chief justice of ongoing joint arrangements between police and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

A total of 25 baby ponds have been created within the boundaries of GHMC, of which two are located in the city center, one at Sanjeevaiah Park and the other on People’s Plaza necklace road.

However, the Telangana state high court advocates bar association has requested that police security be provided to K Karuna Sagar (Advocate, BJP Legal Cell).

Raja Singh MLA’s counsel appeared on remand in a hate speech case.

Idols made of PoP

It was ordered in July this year that the state government ensures Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) or any other material were not immersed in Hussain Sagar Lake (Tank Bund) or any other lake in Telangana by the division bench of the Telangana High Court, led by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Surepalli Nanda.

In 2021, the then-acting Chief Justice MS Ramchander Rao had directed the Telangana Government to construct baby ponds instead of immersing POP idols in Tank Bund.

In response to the HC’s orders, the state government approached the Supreme Court arguing that all arrangements for immersion in Hussain Sagar have already been made and it is impossible to make alternative arrangements at the last minute.

State immersion was granted to the state as a last chance by the Supreme Court, but Hussain Sagar immersion is prohibited from 2022 onwards.
