Cyberabad Police Bust Online Dating Scam, Arrest 7 at Hyderabad Pub

Cyberabad Police have cracked down on an online dating scam operated from Mosh pub in Hyderabad, resulting in the arrest of seven accused. The scam, carried out over six weekends from April 17 to May 13, targeted 50 to 60 victims, defrauding them of approximately Rs 30 lakh. According to Madhapur DCP Vineeth, the accused involved six girls who received a 10% commission for their roles.

“We are taking steps to revoke the pub’s license. Additionally, we have filed a criminal case against the pub owners and event managers,” stated DCP Vineeth. The charges under sections 406, 419, and 420 of the IPC have been applied to Aakash Kumar, Suraj Kumar, Akshat Narula, Tarun, Shiv Raj, Nayak, Rohith Kumar, Cherkupally Sai Kumar, Jagadish, and Navodaya.

Explaining the modus operandi, DCP Vineeth mentioned that the accused targeted pubs with poor ratings and approached them to organize events. “They had previously engaged in similar fraudulent activities in Delhi and Bengaluru, with plans to expand to Nagpur before our intervention,” he added.

The scam involved recruiting girls seeking employment, who would create profiles on dating apps using their photos to entice victims. Subsequently, male accomplices would impersonate the girls in online chats with victims. After arranging to meet at a cafe, the victims were persuaded to accompany the girls to Mosh pub, where they were presented with a separate, inflated menu. Bills ranged from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000, after which the girls would vanish, leaving the victims to settle the hefty tab.

DCP Vineeth emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to ensure justice for all affected parties and hold the perpetrators accountable.
