Amaravati: The AP Legislative Council on Wednesday took up a discussion on the issue of trifurcation of State capital in the State. Council chairman MA Sharif allotted 84 minutes to the main Opposition TDP, 8 minutes to the nominated members of the TDP, 27 minutes to the ruling YSRCP members and nine minutes to the Independent members in the Council.
Speaking on the Administration Decentralization Bill, TDP MLC Nara Lokesh said construction of all government buildings have been completed in Amaravati and they will remain vacant and public money would be wasted if the State capital was trifurcated and shifted to other parts of the State. He also said the Union government was insisting on the establishment of the State capital in one place. Referring to South Africa, Lokesh recalled the statement of President of South Africa that the formation of the three State capitals was nothing but colossal wastage of money.
Responding to the comments of Lokesh, Minister Avanti Srinivas said all the TDP leaders, Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh always talk about Singapore, China, and America. But the YSRCP leaders always think about the development of the backward areas of the State. He also alleged that there was no end to the “loot” of the TDP leaders in Amaravati. This prompted TDP MLC Rajendra Prasad to obstruct the minister’s speech. This emboldened the spirit and prompted to ask the Opposition party leaders whether it was proper for them to call Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as Tuglaq.
