During a time when the police are the last hope for a civilian’s safety, horrendous activities of the law-protectors against women instill deep-rooted fear in the citizens of the country. In a similar incident, a sub-inspector of the Delhi Police was arrested over complaints filed by four women for allegedly stalking, molesting, doing obnoxiously obscene acts to please himself, and passing vulgar comments at women.
After receiving the complaints, police jumped into action and arrested the man on 24th October, who was found through the CCTV footage of the areas mentioned by the victims.
Three women had filed complaints on October 17th of getting followed and molested by an unknown man who had a grey Baleno car. The FIRs lodged in Dwarka, Delhi’s southwest area mentioned the time of between 8 and 9 in the morning. Another fourth woman complain had a similar tale.
The Delhi Police said that as such, the man has been charged on basis of the four different cases filed against him according to the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act as well.
The complaint of one of the four women was recorded in a video in which she narrated the disgusting incident. On the morning of 17th October, when she was out cycling, the man in question allegedly started stalking her, “While cycling, I noticed a small, grey car which had its rear glass broken. After some time, I noticed that the car was being driven besides me. I didn’t look at him. He honked at me. I gestured him to move ahead. He didn’t move ahead and chased me.”
Followed with this were the absurd things he did next. According to the lady, the man present in the car approached her for seeking directions for Sector-14 of Dwarka. Upon this, even before she started to direct him the way, he unzipped his pants and began touching and flashing his private parts in a lustful way. Horrified by the act, the woman angrily told him to leave but he didn’t do so. She then got conscious of the fact that there was no person present in the vicinity and all automobiles were traveling at high speeds, which made it impossible for her to ask for help. In the video, she further said the man in the car continued his cheap acts and started saying nasty things to her, “He went stopping, he went on.”
On spotting some parked cars, she began screaming and asking for help. The man took this as the cue and fled the place.
Following this complaint, the police brought surveillance videos from 200 CCTV cameras and investigated it. They also used manpower of close to 200 cops to find the accused.
Delhi’s 286 Baleno was tracked down to trace the man through their details. To their dismay, the Baleno car utilized by the man for the act wasn’t registered.
Yet, the police managed to get hold of the accused from his house located in Janakpuri, an area in west Delhi, The accused was arrested on Saturday and identified as a member of the police fraternity itself, sub-inspector Puneet Grewal.
A sub-inspector of the Delhi Police Puneet was given the duty at the Special Cell unit of Delhi Police. The police said after getting arrested, he is imprisoned under judicial custody.
According to police sources, many other women had complained of similar incidents with Puneet but did not file FIRs, highlighting that he had harassed several other women as well. They added that more cases can be filed if similar complaints are found.
