Dive into the complete dropped & retained players list for IPL 2021

Prior to the commencement of this year’s auction for IPL, likely to be held on 11th February, each team laid out its list of players that it has retained and released based on their performances in the previous edition of the cricket series and other factors.

There have been drops of some big names while many retained their core players to continue the game to incline in their favor. For IPL 2021, 8 teams are allowed to interchange their players. They can also trade capped and uncapped cricketers.

Here’s the complete list of those saved and dropped by all teams:

  • Mumbai Indians

  • The team who picked the trophy last year have released Basith Malinga, a shocking revelation though the Sri Lankan cricketer hadn’t played in IPL 2020 as well due to personal reasons.

Released: Lasith Malinga, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Pattinson, Mitch McClenaghan, Sherfane Rutherford, Prince Balwant Rai, and Digvijay Deshmukh.

Retained: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan (WK), Saurabh Tiwary, Aditya Tare (WK), Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy, Chris Lynn, Anmolpreet Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Rahul Chahar, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Jayant Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Dhawal Kulkarni.

  • Delhi Capitals

  • The north Indian team too made some big announcements, confirming their retained team members on Twitter.

Released: Alex Carey, Tushar Deshpande, Mohit Sharma, Jason Roy, Keemo Paul, Sandeep Lamichhane.

Retained: Shreyas Iyer (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, R Ashwin, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Prithvi Shaw, Lalit Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Daniels Sams, Anrich Nortje, Shimron Hetmyer.

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad

  • In no way was the Hyderabadi team going to let go of its star players like the much-loved David Warner and Rashid Khan. It has made the least dismissals.

Released: B Sandeep, Sanjay Yadav, Fabian Allen, Yarra Prithviraj, Billy Strenlake.

Retained: David Warner (c), Abhishek Sharma, Basil Thampi, Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Shreevats Goswami, Siddarth Kaul, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Priyam Garg, Virat Singh, T Natarajan, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Mohammad Nabi, Vijay Shankar, Wriddhiman Saha, Abdul Samad, Mitchell Marsh.

  • Rajasthan Royals

  • They also made a big change by dropping their captain, Steve Smith. Moreover, they have also appointed Kumar Sangakkara as their new team director.

Released: Steve Smith, Akash Singh, Varun Aaron, Shashank Sing, Ankit Rajpoot, Oshane Thomas, Tom Curran, Anirudha Joshi.

Retained: Sanju Samson, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Manan Vohra, Robin Uthappa, Jos Buttler, Riyan Parag, Mahipal Lomror, Kartik Tyagi, Andrew Tye, Jaydev Unadkat, Anuj Rawat, David Miller, Shreyas Gopal, Rahul Tewatia, Mayank Markande, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

  • Kolkata Knight Riders

  • The Shahrukh Khan owned team dismissed 2 overseas players and 3 others while retaining the majority. Pat Cummins was retained though he did not manage to make his presence felt last year. However, his role in the recent series with India where he picked many wickets helped him save his spot.

Retained: Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, Lockie Ferguson, Nitish Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Pat Cummins, Rahul Tripathi, Tom Banton, Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi, Shubman Gill, Sandeep Warrier.

With the hashtag “Sadda Punjab”, this team removed its all-rounder, Australian Glenn          Maxwell on account of his previous performance in the IPL that could not make any impact.

Released: Glenn Maxwell, Karun Nair, Jagadeesha Suchith, Sheldon Cottrell, Jimmy Neesham, Tajinder Singh, Hardus Viljoen, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Krishnappa Gowtham.

Retained: KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mohammed Shami, Mandeep Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, Deepak Hooda, Prabhsimran Singh, Mayank Agarwal, Nicholas Pooran, Chris Jordan, Murugan Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Ishan Pore, Darshan Nalkande, Ravi Bishnoi.

  • Chennai Super Kings

    The 3-time winners made some heavy announcements as the team wasn’t able to even enter the playoffs last year. Shane Watson had to be dropped as he retired from cricket while others are still playing but removed from the team due to their performance.

Released: Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Murali Vijay, Monu Singh, Shane Watson, Kedar Jadhav.

Retained: MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Josh Hazlewood, Sam Curran, KM Asif, Deepak Chahar, Faf du Plessis, Karn Sharma, Lungi Ngidi, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, R Sai Kishore, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir, N Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad.

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore

  • While saving 12 players, the team has released 10 others including names like Aaron Flinch and Dale Steyn.

Released: Chris Morris, Aaron Finch, Dale Steyn, Pawan Negi, Gurkeerat Mann, Parthiv Patel, Moeen Ali, Isuru Udana, Shivam Dube, Umesh Yadav.

Retained: Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villiers, Navdeep Saini, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shahbaz Ahamad, Adam Zampa Devdutt, Padikkal, Mohammed Siraj, Joshua Philippe, Pavan Deshpande.
