Dubai hospital sets an example of humanity, waives off Rs.1 crore 52 lakh bill of Telangana’s covid patient.

Dubai, the country infamous for the thousands of tourists visiting it every year due to its scenic beauty and luxury will now be known for its kind deed as well.

A hospital in the country waived off the medical bills of a poor patient hailing from a village in Telangana on humanitarian grounds. Moreover, a volunteer even paid for the patient and his companion’s flight tickets along with helping them Rs. 10,000 in cash for the other expenses.

The incident took place when Mr. Odnala Rajesh, resident of Venugumatha village in Gollapalli mandal of Jagtial district, Telangana was admitted to ‘Dubai hospital’ in Dubai, UAE on April 23rd, citing ill health. Later, he tested and found to be covid-19 positive.

The man recovered well from the infection after a span of 80 days spent in his treatment. His relief turned into shock when he was handed a bill amounting to 7, 62,555 dirhams which in Indian rupees get converted to Rs. 1 crore 52 lakhs by the hospital during his discharge.

President of the Gulf Workers Protection Society, Mr. Gundelli Narasimha, had brought Mr. Rajesh, the worker, to the hospital for his treatment and visited him regularly to take updates about his recovery and general health. Mr. Gundelli reached to Mr. Sumanth Reddy, an Indian Consulate volunteer in Dubai and put the matter before him.

Volunteer Sumanth Reddy and Mr. Ashok Kotecha of BAPS Swaminarayan Trust requested Mr. Harjeet Singh, Consul (Labour) of Indian Consulate in Dubai to help the poor worker.

Consulate Officer Mr. Harjeet Singh then wrote a letter to the Dubai Hospital management requesting them to clear his dues as a Good Samaritan. They received a positive response as the hospital went ahead and waived off Mr. Rajesh’s bill and discharged him.

Volunteer Mr. Ashok Kotecha provided free flight tickets to the patient Mr. Odnala Rajesh and his companion Mr.Dyavara Kankaiah. He also gave Rs.10,000 to him for pocket expenses. The patient and his escort were sent by Air India flight from Dubai to Hyderabad on Tuesday, 14th July.

Upon reaching the RGIA of Hyderabad on that night, Telangana NRI officer Mr. E. Chittibabu permitted Mr. Rajesh and the associate for a 14-day home quarantine.  He then handed over the patient to his family members and sent him back to his native village for following the quarantine which is mandatory by all foreign returnees.
