“Dumbo, Paltu, Badtameez”- Inside the ugly Twitter spat of Diljit Dosanjh and Kangana

After showcasing her ardent support to the ruling party, BJP, Kangana has moved many steps forward in preaching the ideologies of the NDA by strongly opposing the farmers’ protest of Delhi.

However, this time her abusive language was met by the Punjabi tone of Diljit Dosanjh after she passed disrespectful comments on one of the women participating in the strikes.

The actress went on to misidentify a demonstrator Mahinder Kaur as Bilquis Bano, who is famously called as the “Shaheen Bagh dadi” after protesting against the controversial citizenship amendment act in Delhi. Claiming Ms. Kaur to be Ms. Bilquis, Kangana said that the elderly woman is “available” for as less as “Rs.100” to protest anywhere.

Following the same, the actress was lashed out by several Twitter users while a Punjab-based lawyer also sent a legal notice to her.

While her hateful comments where she called the farmer protests as misguided and wrong were the usual, Twitterati wasn’t impressed with her “Rs.100” remark as she had to witness a massive outrage especially from her Punjabi industry colleagues, including Diljit Dosanjh and Mika Singh.

In response to her original tweet that was later deleted seeing the uproar, Bollywood singer Diljit Dosanjh stepped up to lash out at the actress, slamming her of disrespecting an elderly woman despite being a woman herself.

Kangana replied with her signature choice of words, further calling him “Karan Johar’s pet”. In a tweet where the singer posted a video of Ms. Kaur for the actress to listen to it for clarifying her doubts, she accused him and the so-called “tukde gang” of misguiding the farmers as she apparently “worried” due to the regular riots and “blood-shed”. “Tum sab bhaagidaar ho isme (You all are involved in this), remember that,” the actress wrote.

What followed after this was a string of unpleasantries shared between the two Bollywood members.

“Roar again tukde gang”, “Need to recognize these terrorists”, read Kangana’s responses to Diljit’s repeated hit backs where he called out her abusive speaking style and efforts of diverting the topic from the cries of the farmers to imaginative terror groups.

The singer’s mostly Punjabi responses were translated by other users for better clarity to non-Punjabi speaking users.

The fight which initially started on Wednesday continued the day after and persisted even during the evening.

Many came forward to support the 36-year-old singer and his stance including Canadian Youtuber Kanweer Singh, more commonly known as “Humble the Poet”. He tagged him in a tweet and wrote, “Diljit is the King Crown. If you don’t appreciate his movements it’s because you don’t understand them. @diljitdosanjh has become one of the most important leaders of our people. Live long King.”

Mika Singh, too, extended his support to Diljit, thrashing Kangana, “I used to have immense respect for @KanganaTeam, I even tweeted in support when her office was demolished. I now think I was wrong, Kangana being a woman you should show the old lady some respect. If you have any ettiquete then apologise. Shame on you…”

Ms. Ranaut becomes a part of the ring-wing commenters who declared their support to the opposing side of the farmers even as they survived a brutal lash of the police in Haryana followed with a peaceful protest in Delhi against the new farm laws that they say will leave them at the mercy of big corporates.
