Education key for uplift of SCs, over 10,000 acres distributed among 5,400 beneficiaries: Jagadish

Hyderabad: Energy and Scheduled Castes’ Development Minister G Jagadish Reddy today said the State government was committed for SC development and focusing on offering them quality education.

Addressing mediapersons after holding a review meeting on SC Development with officials at the Secretariat here, the minister maintained that the TRS government will spend adequate funds to provide land to eligible SCs. The government has spent about Rs 2,837.23 crore in first quarter of 2018-19 fiscal and spent about 70 per cent of the funds meant for SC Development in last four years, he added.

The minister said the government had decided to give three acres of land to all eligible SCs and STs for farming despite not making a promise in the TRS manifesto. The officials are on the job to provide the land to the SCs as per norms and on availability, land will be distributed to them, he said. He also slammed the Opposition parties for making mischievous remarks that the government had miserably failed to keep its promise of giving three acre land to the SCs. “Let them come with a piece of land, the government will purchase it and give the same to the SCs,” the minister said.

Jagadish Reddy said the State government in the last four years has distributed over 10,000 acres among 5,400 SC beneficiaries in the State and it is a continuous process. “In future too, land will be given to the SCs based on availability of the land. The TRS government has emerged as No. 1 in the country in welfare and spending a whopping Rs 40,000 crore and started as many as 40 schemes”, he claimed. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has been evincing keen interest in implementing assorted schemes of welfare of the SCs in the youngest State. Our motto is to uplift the SCs and launched new schools to cater to their needs and helping them develop by offering loans”, he said. (NSS)
