Engineering fee hike at JNTU-Hyderabad

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, Hyderabad’s campus, and constituent colleges have increased course fees for students enrolled in engineering courses.

BTech courses are now charged 50,000 rupees per year instead of 35, 000 rupees per year, as announced by the university administration recently.

The new fee was approved by the university’s Executive Council (EC) last week, and it will apply to all of the varsity’s BTech courses at its Hyderabad campus, as well as its constituent colleges at Jagtial, Manthani, Sultanpur, Rajanna Sircilla, and Wanaparthy.

The university has raised the fees for MTech regular courses from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 per semester, in addition to the BTech courses. A fee of Rs 1 lakh per annum will be charged for self-financed MTech courses. As the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) decided not to revise the fee for private professional colleges in this academic year, the administration is in a catch-22 situation over the implementation of the fee hike, even though the EC approved the hike. Yet, there hasn’t been an official order issued by the state government.

According to sources, we will find out by the end of the week whether to implement the revised fee structure for the JNTU-H campus and constituent colleges this year or next academic year. Students who qualify for fee reimbursement may not be affected by the fee hike since the State government reimburses eligible students. In addition to students who studied intermediate in government junior colleges and secured a rank below 10,000 in the TS EAMCET, 100 percent of their fees will be reimbursed in accordance with the rules.

Additionally, students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are eligible for 100 percent fee reimbursement as long as their household income does not exceed Rs 2 lakh per year. In the case of students who score above 10,000 in TS EAMCET, fee reimbursement will be limited to Rs 35,000, while the rest must be paid by the students themselves.
