Farmers’ Protest: Delhi Police Seeks AAP Government’s Approval to Use 9 Stadiums as Temporary Jails

New Delhi: Delhi Police turned to fire tear gas shells to scatter protesting farmers as they arrived at Singhu border (Haryana-Delhi verge) on Friday.

As per sources, the Delhi Police has additionally requested nine stadiums from the Aam Aadmi Party government to detain the farmers in the event that they manage to enter the national capital.

Police have attempted to negotiate with a delegation of farmers. They have clarified that the farmers won’t be permitted to cross the border and enter Delhi. The protesters, however, seem adamant.

At Singhu border the Delhi Police has placed barbed wires and Boulder blockades to stop farmers trolleys heading towards the capital city.

At the Mundka-Delhi-Haryana outskirt, a confrontation was seen among farmers and Police where the farmers attempted to penetrate the security ring of the paramilitary and Police.

The Delhi Police has just clarified that strict action according to the law would be taken against the farmers in the event that they attempt to enter Delhi.

About 500 farmers’ associations from six states – Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Kerala and Rajasthan have been arranging this march for two months to press the central government to withdraw the recently enacted farm laws.

A statement from Samyukt Kisan Morcha and All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee said that it is expected that more than 50,000 farmers will be standing at the Delhi border by today evening. The numbers are expected to swell through the night as thousands of tractors and trolleys are carrying farmers, women and children from interior areas of Punjab.
