Tesla is finally making its way to India and it’s been a long time coming. In the latest update, the company has four of their models have received approval, as per the update received on the government’s Vahan Sewa portal.

Four Tesla Models Receive Homologation

The Tesla Club India took to Twitter revealed that Tesla has completed the homologation and has received approval for four of the vehicles that are to be made available in India. It further added that they however don’t have any confirmation on the names yet. But it is likely that the Tesla models will be Model 3 and Y variants.
Homologation is the process of certifying the vehicles or a component in a vehicle. It certifies that the product has met the requirements set by the statutory regulatory bodies. As per multiple media reports, Model 3 and Model Y is being speculated for the first approval of Tesla’s cars for India. However, an official confirmation is awaited.

The club further wrote on Twitter that Model Y is still being tested in Pune, India. This further means that the Model Y could launch with Model 3.
This comes after a report in April surface over the internet that Tesla has hired top executives across the country to take charge of some of their operations before they plan to roll out their first all-electric car in India.

The current approval comes after Elon Musk said that India has very high import duties for electric vehicles which was making it difficult for them to arrive in the country. He added that however, temporary tariff relief would be appreciated.
