After announcing recruitment over 50 thousand posts being vacant in various departments, the government has now come up with a new scheme of providing free water up to 20 liters in the city.
Only on Saturday, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T.Rama Rao held a review meeting with the officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to discuss the issue before rolling out the new scheme.
The newly introduced scheme will facilitate the people in the city to use 20,000 liters of water without footing the bill. However, the decision has made the HMWS&SB officials worried who is now busy recovering arrears from the defaulters who have not paid their water bills for a long time.
In recent years the HMWS&SB is seen going the whole hog against the defaulters and constituted special teams of senior officials to recover the arrears after the deadline of the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme reaches an end. They even imposed penalties besides disconnecting the connections of the defaulters.
Only a few days ahead of the recently held GHMC elections, the officials were seen inspecting the areas to collect the arrears and there are certain instances wherein several water connections have been disconnected after the defaulters failed to pay the pending bills then and there.
However, with the announcement of the new scheme, the officials were swept under the carpet as there is no point in implementing the deterrent order released earlier.
