Fuel prices hike- Diesel prices highest in Hyderabad among metros; Check fuel rates in your city

After a brief pause, fuel prices are back on their way to become increasingly unaffordable for the common man. Petrol rates have increased following a 22-day break while diesel continues its scale-up. Diesel prices jumped for the fourth time since last week, as the government oil marketing companies submitted a revised table of rates for fuels.

In the notice shared by the oil retailers, diesel and petrol prices have been increased by 28 paise and 25 paise respectively. The national capital witnessed a surge of 20 paise in petrol rates while diesel went up by 25 paise. The current price in Delhi for petrol is Rs 101.19 per litre and diesel comes for Rs 89.57 per litre.

Amongst the metropolitan cities in India, Mumbai tops all in terms of petrol prices while Hyderabad is selling the most expensive diesel.

Check the latest diesel and petrol prices in your respective city below.

Delhi: Petrol- ₹ 101.39, Diesel- ₹ 89.57

Bengaluru: Petrol- ₹ 104.92, Diesel- ₹ 95.06

Hyderabad: Petrol- ₹ 105.48, Diesel- ₹ 97.74

Hyderabad comes just after Mumbai as customers will have to shell out Rs 105.48 for one litre of petrol. Diesel is not far as it stands at Rs 97.74 per litre- the highest in all metros.

The different fuel prices amongst cities and states are due to the VAT (value-added tax) charged by the state governments. Differences in this tax in turn direct the prices for fuel.

In India, Sri Ganganagar of Rajasthan sells the highest priced petrol and diesel. One litre of the fuel is available at Rs 113.30 here while diesel is being sold at Rs 103.34 per litre. Coming right behind it are Rewa and Anuppur districts of Madhya Pradesh as petrol prices increased to Rs 112.27 per litre and Rs 112.67 per litre with diesel costing Rs 100.69 per litre and Rs 101.06 per litre respectively. In Maharashtra, Parbhani district is selling petrol for Rs 110.04 per litre and diesel for Rs 98.20 per litre.

Fuel rates are revised every day by state oil retailers after required tweaks to the prices to bring it in line with the global benchmark and dollar value in the market. The top selling oil companies of India- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation follow the same process.
