GHMC chief inspects Basti Dawakhanas, night shelters in city

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore today made surprise inspection of Basti Dhawakanas to get the first hand information on the functioning and performance of clinics in the slum areas in the city.

The Commissioner, along with Additional Commissioners Sikta Patnaik and N. Raghu Prasad visited and inspected the Basti Dawakhana at Shamlal Building, Begumpet.  During inspection, the  Commissioner said majority of people were coming from slum areas for medical treatment. Presently on an average, 80 patients were coming for treatment and it has to increase to 200 and instructed the officials to take steps accordingly.

The Commissioner instructed the Hyderabad District Health officials to provide BP checking equipment to all Basti Dawakhanas for the benefit of patients for treatment for Blood pressure, Skin Diseases. He also appreciated the medical officer for giving treatment of Tele medicine with experts in their respective fields. The Commissioner also suggested to the officer t take up plantation in and around Basti Dhawakana.

Basti Dawakhana in Each Slum areas

There are 1,451 slums in GHMC areas out which 986 notified ones and 465 non- Notified slums. Presently 112 Urban Health Centres are functioning of these 98 centres are in Government Buildings. Apart from these health centres there is a proposal to provide 200 more Basti  Dawakahas in order to reach the people who are not access for medical facilities in slums. Around 105 Basti Dawakhans are functions efficiently said the Commissioner.
Inspects night shelters

Dana Kishore also inspected the night shelter at Begumpet area and enquired about the facilities provided at the night shelter, health check ups apart from keeping the premises neat and clean and also ensure the occupants follow the same. The Commissioner said presently 12 Night Shelters were functioning — 8 for males and 4 for females — at a cost 9.71 crore.
Bansilalpet multipurpose function hall inspected

The Commissioner also inspected the Bansilalpet Multipurpose Function Hall, which was functioning under GHMC. He said the multipurpose function halls will be available at a nominal fee of Rs 20,000. For poor people, who cannot afford, the GHMC was giving the community hall at a nominal cost. The GHMC was constructing 16 multipurpose community halls at an estimated cost of Rs 30.32 crore and some of them are put into use, said the Commissioner.(NSS)
