Government Bans Political Rallies During Ganesh Immersion, Milad-Un-Nabi Festivities on September 17

In a bid to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of Ganesh idol immersion and Milad-Un-Nabi processions scheduled for September 17, the Telangana government has announced a ban on political rallies across the state. Transport and BC Welfare Minister, Ponnam Prabhakar, made the announcement during a press conference held at the Collectorate.

Minister Prabhakar emphasized that while there are many platforms for political activities, no political rallies or events will be tolerated in areas falling under the jurisdiction of the three police commissionerates during the religious festivals. He urged citizens to focus on the spirit of celebration and unity, keeping politics at bay.

“We request the public to organize the Ganesh immersion processions without any political undertones. The government has made extensive arrangements for the peaceful conduct of both the Ganesh immersion and Milad-Un-Nabi processions,” said Prabhakar. He further warned that strict action will be taken against any individual or organization that attempts to instigate unrest or disrupt communal harmony during these significant religious events.

The state government has also directed law enforcement agencies to maintain heightened security across Hyderabad, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy ordering stern action against anti-social elements. Prabhakar called on citizens to cooperate fully with the government to ensure both festivals are celebrated peacefully.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of heightened political tensions in the state, particularly after Thursday’s altercation between Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and defected MLA Arekapudi Gandhi. Addressing this issue, Prabhakar remarked that while political leaders are free to express their differences, they must refrain from engaging in physical altercations. “Action will be taken against those who indulge in violence,” he added.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand also addressed the media, providing details of the security arrangements made for September 17. He stated that comprehensive reviews of security have been carried out, with particular attention given to areas where Ganesh mandapams have been erected.

“I have already visited all zones and personally reviewed the steps taken at the Ganesh Mandapam to ensure the immersion is peaceful,” said the Commissioner. Additionally, Anand revealed that the police are simultaneously preparing for Milad-Un-Nabi festivities, with multiple security measures in place for the two festivals, as well as for other events planned for the same day at Parade Ground and Public Gardens.

More police units will be deployed across Hyderabad on the final day of immersion, with reinforcements joining duty to ensure that all festivities proceed without incident. The city is expected to witness a significant gathering of devotees and participants from both Hindu and Muslim communities, marking the culmination of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and the celebration of Milad-Un-Nabi.

Minister Prabhakar concluded his address by appealing to citizens for their cooperation and respect for the law during this sensitive period. “As both Hindu and Muslim festivals are being celebrated simultaneously, no politics or disruptions will be tolerated,” he said, reiterating the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony.

The Ganesh immersion, traditionally one of the largest public events in Hyderabad, is expected to draw thousands of devotees to the Hussain Sagar Lake and other designated immersion points. Meanwhile, Milad-Un-Nabi processions will also take place across the city, with special attention being given to ensure smooth traffic management and public safety.

With tight security, extensive preparations, and clear instructions from the government, Hyderabad is poised to witness a day of peaceful and harmonious celebrations on September 17, marking the coexistence of its diverse religious and cultural communities.
