Govt okays Re-construction of Mahboob Chowk

Hyderabad: Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction for the work of “Re-construction of Mahboob Chowk (Murgi Chowk) at Laadbazar near Charminar after demolishing the existing structure.

While taking up restoration and conservation work of Mahboob chowk known as Murgi chowk, architectural character and identity of the place would be retained. A survey was conducted by a team of JNTU engineers led by Dr Maganti Janardhana, professor of civil engineering submitted his report which stated that the structure is in dilapidated condition. As there are structural cracks at several locations of the building and foundation appears to be weak, in the event of heavy rains or due to minor earthquake, the structure is not fit for living or occupancy.

After going through the report and inspection by Chief Secretary along with principal secretary of municipal administration, it was decided to take up the re-construtio of the Murgi Chowk instead of repairs or renovation. The new structure would be ground floor + first floor. The proposal was placed before standing committee of the GHMC. the GHMC standing committee accorded approval for the work of reconstruction of Mahboob chowk at a cost of Rs 36 crore. The GHMC submitted its report to the government. Later, the government gave administrative sanction for the proposal with a cost of Rs 36 crore. (NSS)
