Green Buildings Being Preferred by Developers in Telangana

There is a growing trend towards green buildings. Since the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre building in Hyderabad, the green building footprint has reached 8.3 billion sq ft with over 8,250 projects adopting green principles. There are 543 green building projects registered in Telangana. A total of 356 million square feet are covered by these facilities.

Healthy living spaces are becoming increasingly popular. Health is affected by the adoption of green principles. More natural light, efficient air conditioning, fewer emissions- all of these contribute to good health, said C Shekhar Reddy, Chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Hyderabad Chapter.

There has been a reduction in the cost of green materials. Additionally, there are more options to choose from. Professionals who can advise on the options have reached 6,000, including about 500 in Telangana. Depending on the materials and good practices used, the rating is classified as platinum, gold, or silver.

Green building products are not much more expensive than conventional building products in luxury and large projects. At this point in time, price parity is difficult for the affordable housing segment, he said.

There is mounting evidence that green buildings save resources while also improving occupant health and well-being. According to Shekar Reddy, Co-Chairman of the industry event ‘Green Building Congress 2022,’ the focus is shifting to people and their wellness, as well as net zero emissions.

Green buildings save 30-50% on energy and 20-30% on water, while also improving health and productivity by 12-16% and lowering carbon emissions.

It is also worth noting that the Secunderabad Railway Station is India’s first IGBC Platinum grade railway station. The Telangana Police Command Control Centre is also a green building. The new Secretariat that the State is building will be a green structure. The diya-shaped Telangana Martyrs Memorial getting prepared is also a green structure. As many as 14 Integrated Collectorate complexes too are constructed with green principles.
