“Guaranteed free 300 units power, no tax increase”- Kejriwal’s big promises ahead of Uttarakhand polls

With the election season nearing, parties are targeting states with a list of promises in their campaigns. Joining in was the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal speaking for the Aam Admi Party in the upcoming polls in Uttarakhand. He announced big promises for the citizens of the state with many electricity-concerned. In the offers mentioned to lure voters towards AAP, he promised 300 free units of power every month for every household, no power cuts, waiver on previous electricity bills and free supply to all farmers.

Thrashing the big players of the game- BJP and Congress- the President of AAP gave examples of his rule in the national capital and the party’s performance, which is unlike that of both the other parties that are only run after power instead of development.

This was the first press conference held by the CM of Delhi for campaigning for AAP ahead of the February 2022 elections in Uttarakhand. Mr Kejriwal criticized the BJP and Congress, saying that the people of the state have “been getting ground by these two parties like grain between two millstones’ for the past 20 years. “They are only fighting for the chair”, he said, asking, “Who will think of the development of the people of Uttarakhand?”

He went on to share his sympathies and the injustice done towards the people due to the price surges and other problems and shortly landed at the electricity arena.

Questioning the reason for electricity being so expensive in Uttarakhand despite the state producing power, Mr Kejriwal asked if any party had even thought about giving free electricity to the state people.

“I heard the Uttarakhand power minister announcing on TV the provision of 100 units free and between 100 and 200 units at half the price,” he said, sharing his doubts on whether these people who make promises 6 months before the elections will remain loyal to their words.

While announcing the AAP’s promise of providing 300 units of free power after their victory among other offers, Mr Kejriwal “guaranteed” 4 things in the power sector. He stressed that his promises are not just an “election jumla”.

“What we did in Delhi, AAP will do in Uttarakhand as well”, he said. The Delhi CM added another promise saying no taxes will be increased for 5 years and the state will also not seek loans.
