Hanumanth Rao to convene all-party meeting on Uranium issue in city on Sept. 16

Hyderabad : Former MP and chairman of Congress party’s newly appointed committee for taking up agitation against uranium mining in the Nallamalla forests V. Hanumanth Rao today said they would hold an all-party meeting on the issue on September 16 at Dasapalla hotel here. He said the meeting would be held under the aegis of Uranium Vyatireka Porata Samithi.

Hanumanth Rao said TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Janasena Party president Pawan Kalyan, CPM State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram, CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, TTDP president L. Ramana, former MLC Prof Nageswar, TJS president Prof. Kodandaram, Telangana Inti Party president Cheruku Sudhakar, environmentalists professor Purushotam, Professor Anand Rao would take part in the meeting. He said the uranium extraction would damage the entire Krishna river valley area and also cause huge damage to flora and fauna of the area.

Noting that nuclear power was needed for the country, he said it should not be produced at the cost of damaging the Nallamalla forest. He said they would go to the public after the meeting of the all party leaders. (NSS)
