A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Vangapally village, as a man reportedly succumbed to a heart attack late at night, allegedly due to harassment by a finance company. The victim, Akunuri Rakesh, was a resident of the village and had been facing immense stress due to repeated threats and pressure from recovery agents of Arman Finance, a microfinance company.
Rakesh’s wife, Vaishnavi, recounted the series of events leading up to his untimely demise. According to her, Rakesh had taken a personal loan from Arman Finance but fell behind on payments over the past three months due to financial difficulties. The delay triggered relentless harassment from the company’s recovery agents, who frequently visited their home, disturbed their peace, filed legal cases, and issued threats of jail time.
“He told me he had chest pain, and we immediately called an ambulance to rush him to the hospital. But the doctors informed us that he had suffered a fatal heart attack,” Vaishnavi shared tearfully with the media.

The family had earlier filed a complaint at the local police station, highlighting the harassment they faced from the finance company. However, the lack of immediate action has now left the community in mourning and outrage.
The tragic incident has sparked anger among the villagers, who accuse microfinance companies of exploiting vulnerable people. They alleged that these companies initially lure borrowers with small loans and later subject them to severe pressure and harassment for repayment.
“This is not just about Rakesh’s death; it’s about the predatory practices of these finance companies that exploit the poor for profit. We demand strict government regulations on these institutions to prevent such tragedies,” a villager said.
The untimely death of Rakesh has cast a shadow of sorrow over Vangapally, with his grieving family and villagers urging authorities to take immediate steps to regulate the operations of microfinance companies. They also called for an investigation into the practices of Arman Finance and justice for Rakesh’s family.
