Harish Rao accuses BJP of engaging in blackmail politics

Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of engaging in blackmail politics by misusing Central investigation agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax in states where elections were scheduled.

He said that besides goading people to form new political parties, demoralizing local governments and other political parties in States where polls were scheduled to be held had become a routine practice for BJP. Even the general public was aware of the BJP’s cheap strategies, he said, adding that such tactics may work in states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, but not in Telangana, which has a great history of several agitations against oppression.

The people of Telangana were not unfamiliar with the ED and IT. Despite severe suppression and police cases being filed against the people by Andhra Pradesh during the Statehood movement, the people of Telangana continued the agitation under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and achieved the State of Telangana.

He was speaking after inspecting the preparations for the Chief Minister’s public meeting on December 7 at Mothe. Welfare Minister Koppula Eashwar, MLC K Kavitha, and others accompanied him.

Harish Rao told the media after the inspection that Sarpanches from some taluks in Maharashtra’s Nanded district had recently approached Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy, requesting that their villages be merged with Telangana because they were unable to access schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, and others in that state. Though people in neighboring states had recognized and were acknowledging Telangana’s good work for the welfare of people, he said the BJP was unable to digest this.

On the Chief Minister’s visit, Harish Rao notified that Chandrashekhar Rao would arrive at the district headquarters on December 7 and inaugurate the TRS party office. He would inaugurate the Integrated District Offices Complex and hold a review meeting with public representatives and officials after laying the foundation for the medical college building. He would also speak at a public meeting at Mothe beginning at 2 p.m.
