Haryana’s covid-19 lab busted for giving fake test reports

The Haryana police force arrested two people in Gurugram on Saturday following their raid on a covid-19 pathology lab that furnished fake negative reports to infected patients and vice versa for money.

After receiving the tip-off, the state’s police busted the center and took in two people, though others are yet to be found, in Sector 30 of Gurugram.

In the incident of Sainikhera village, the two accused have been identified as a resident of Kolkata named Anirban Roy and another from Murshidabad, Parimal Roy. Both were living in the village in a rented room.

Headed by DSP Inderjit Yadav along with District Inspector Harish Budhiraja, the team belonging to the CM’s flying squad were informed of the covid-19 infection tests being carried on in a specific “Medikartz Pathology Lab and Medical Tourism” situated within the village. They earlier knew that the lab is functioning post receiving permission from the District Health Department.

Amandeep Chauhan, the Drug Controller Officer, said that the flying squad of the Chief Minister got a complaint regarding the fake coronavirus reports after which they began the probe in the village. According to the source, infected people were also using fake reports to travel internationally.

The accused blurted during the questioning that they had partnered with DYNEX Diagnostics of Delhi’s Kirti Nagar on whose letterhead, the fake reports would be produced. They further disclosed they hadn’t sought permission from the District Health Department for conducting the tests.

Prior to the raid, the cops laid a trap for the lab owners through a fake customer requesting for a covid-19 positive report. Upon receiving the same, the police quickly acted and raided the place, arresting the two.

“On specific inputs, we zeroed in on Medikartz Pathology Lab and Medical Tourism and sent a false customer who asked for a coronavirus positive report. They gave it. We got to know that the lab has tied up with DYNEX Diagnostics. A team of Chief Minister’s Flying Squad raided the spot late Saturday night and arrested the two people,” Mr Chauhan said.

According to DCO, the duo had been continuing the illegal work for the last 2 months while taking Rs. 1,400- Rs. 3,200 for preparing and giving out the fake reports for the tests to the ones who approached them.

Using the false test results, Mr. Chauhan said, some people have also traveled to the United States and they weren’t even stopped at airports or elsewhere because of the reports.

He also added that people even got fake positive reports for seeking leaves from their offices and workplaces.

The police said that further investigation regarding the case is underway and others involved in the matter are also being traced. On the complaint of the flying squad, the Section-40 police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
