Heated exchanges echo AP Assembly over introduction of English medium in schools

Amaravathi: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly session on Wednesday witnessed the heated exchange of words between the YSRCP members and Opposition TDP over introduction of English medium in all the government schools in the State.

Speaking on the issue, Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu clarified that he was not against the introduction of English medium in schools. He also reminded the House that his government previously had introduced English medium education in all the municipal schools in the State, but YSRCP leader and Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had opposed the move of his government then.

Taking a strong exception to the statements of those who said that he didn’t know English, Naidu said former US President Bill Clinton and Microsoft founder Bill Gates came to Hyderabad after seeing development in the previous capital of the State under his rule. Earlier, angry exchanges erupted between the TDP MLAs and Speaker Tammineni Seetharam following his denial of the request to take up discussions on the issue of the English medium education. They also entered into an argument with the Speaker prompting him to make angry comments.

At this juncture, Naidu asked the Speaker to talk politely with his party members enraged over the ruling party leaders, who hurled abuses and expletives at the TDP MLAs. Sensing trouble,  the Speaker asked Naidu to withdraw his statement as it was objectionable and insulting to the chair.
