Helmets for pillion riders strongly opposed : Two wheeler riders

Hyderabad: The newly formed Telangana Two Wheeler Riders and Auto Drivers JAC has strongly opposed helmets for pillion riders and demanded “Helmet-se-Azdi” aur “Sharab-se-Azadi”. Mohd. Amanullah Khan, Convenor has demanded that ever since the Delhi Traffic Police is bent upon implementing compulsory helmet rule also on the pillion riders.

Khan said that like NRC, CAA &NPR the helmet law is also discriminatory and the Congress leaders instead of protesting against the blind helmet law they have done a mistake by paying the penalty amount of Priyanka Gandhi’s Case for not wearing a helmet.  He demanded KCR, the Chief Minister to pass a resolution in the Assembly opposing use of helmets altogether on the lines of Dr. M. Channa Reddy the then Chief Minister.  As otherwise, his JAC would give a call and organize Chalo Tank bund Million March Protest on March 1 demanding “Helmet Raj Nahi chalega”- :Sharab Hatao Telangana Bachao” slogan.

Further, he said that helmet use and drinking is the main reason for the increasing number of road accidents and crimes.  He said that the renewed seriousness of the traffic police to impose the compulsory helmet law is a discriminatory one targeted to mint money through e-challans.  “This rule is discriminatory as it does not talk about the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and rickshaw pullers or other road passengers traveling in Autos, Cars, Buses, and Trains.  Even pedestrians, cyclists and rickshaw pullers crossing the roads, potholes and unmarked speed breakers cause accidents particularly during nights but nothing is being done in this regard.  Besides the Helmet law has permitted the Sikh Community people to wear turbans in the place of Helmets but the other community people are totally ignored from this facility to wear turbans instead of helmets and the same is not only defective but also discriminatory and it needs to be scraped or else it should be made optional.
