High Court abolishes special magistrate courts

The High Court of the State today issued orders abolishing all the existing special magistrate courts in Telangana.

The registrar general of the HC said that the orders would come into force from April 1, next month. He also said that a total of 53 special magistrate courts from Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts would become a thing of the past with these orders.

The courts were set up ten years back in the State to deal with cases that have the punishment of fewer than two years and cheque bounces cases. They were run with the help of retired magistrates. The HC has taken the decision following the creation of 15 permanent courts in the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.
