Hopes of people in Osman Nagar waning out as all efforts failed to yield any result

As all the requests to officials and measures from authorities failed to yield any fruitful result, the hopes of people in Osman Nagar are waning out while their houses remain inundated in oscillating flood water and the fresh inflows keep marking into the water body from upstream areas.

“We lost all hope to see our area back from the pool of flood water. I never entered the house for several months as the street in which I used to reside remained filled with water upto waist level. Similar is the situation of other houses whose families have taken temporary shelters either at their relatives or in a rented space. We could only have a glimpse of our houses from a distance,” rued Amjad, a resident of Saif Colony Phase-II, under Ward No.8 of Jalpally Municipality.

“The officials and the leaders are only beating the drums of their efforts to ensure draining out of water from the area but nothing has left any impact over the ground situation and the misery we are living through. The water level in the area keeps rising every now and then, throwing cold water on our hopes of returning to home one day. Our houses remained stranded into the storm water and decaying structures posing as harbinger of doom,” bemoaned Maqbool, another resident of the same area.

“Though the rains have rescinded atleast for now but percolation of water mixed with sewerage from the surrounding areas keep marking its way into the water body that rejuvenated only last year with heavy inflows from upward direction. Until two years there was no such issue in the area as water was mainly confined to several meters off from our houses. We never thought of any such dreadful situation we are presently living through in our wildest dream,” Ibrahim, a resident of Osman Nagar.

“We put in a lot of effort to drain out the water from the area and even clear the silt at an outlet but to our surprise the water remained static and showed no sign of movement either. However, we keep monitoring the situation and are determined to find a concrete solution to the issue but it would take time as the water level in the lake keeps oscillating given the frequent rains and inflows from upward direction,” informed an official on the condition of anonymity.
