Hyderabad: BJP MLA says police derailed and ‘protected’ few in rape case

In a statement, BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao accused the Hyderabad Police of derailing the minor rape case that took place in the posh area of Jubliee Hills on May 28.

He claims that the gang rape of a minor girl in Jubilee Hills took place inside the red Mercedez, rather than the Innova, as the police department claims.

According to him, the police protected the MLA’s son and his friends.

As he showed photographs that showed the alleged perpetrator in a compromising position with the victim and what he alleged to be an assault inside the car, he said it was clear that the accused committed the crime inside the Mercedez.

Raghunathan Rao had said that he will produce all the evidence available to him to the court at a later date after expressing doubts about how the police handled the case. He also asked the state government to take the case to the Supreme Court or request a CBI investigation.

Additionally, he had also cautioned the police of tampering with CCTV footage and other evidence.

“The police might claim that the girl consented to the sexual act, but I want to caution them that, under the POCSO Act, giving consent doesn’t hold water in the case of a minor,” he said.

Along with this, in what is another instance of Islamophobic speech, a VHP member in Hyderabad said on Saturday that crimes committed by the Muslim community are on the rise because the TRS government is encouraging them.

During a press conference at the VHP state office in Koti, the state president of the organization M Ramaraju asked whether the state was ruled by an elected government or the Taliban or Nizam’s Razakars.
