Hyderabad: Festive spirit in the air as Ganesha gets a joyous send-off

A large number of devotees joined the immersion procession of Ganesh idols on Friday as all roads led to the water bodies.

Besides Hussain Sagar, other lakes and ponds around the city, as well as specially created artificial ponds in different parts of the city were buzzing with enthusiasm for the immersion of the idols.

In traditional clothing and in a celebratory mood, children and youth danced to the beats of musical bands during the processions. Families also came in large numbers directly from their homes to Hussain Sagar lake to immerse the idols.

The devotees were welcomed along the procession route by the specially erected dais, and flower petals were put on the idols. Several commercial establishments and voluntary groups served snacks and buttermilk.

Amidst the playing of devotional songs, devotees lined up along the roadside and offered prayers to the idols depicting Ganesha in myriad forms.

A coin idol was the center of attention, while another idol on a platform attached to a trailer carrying ten small idols in a line captured many’s attention.

The State government made elaborate arrangements for Friday’s immersion of Ganesh idols across the city.

Aside from security arrangements, 280 cranes were deployed at immersion points to ensure a smooth and peaceful procession. Around 10,000 sanitation staff were deployed by the GHMC, and the HMWS&SB provided drinking water counters along the procession route. Mobile toilets were also installed at NTR Marg.

At immersion sites, around 100 experts were deployed to handle emergencies while medical camps were set up. In temporary tents erected along NTR Marg, senior officials of various departments, including the GHMC and the police, monitored the procession and immersion of idols.

As well as in the main water bodies, 74 artificial ponds were also immersed with Ganesh idols.
