Hyderabad: Plantation drive begins for Independence Day celebrations

Approximately 2,000 children waved the tricolor at NBT Nagar in Banjara Hills as part of Swatantra Bharata Vajrotsavalu. Hundreds of students assembled at the place along with Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi to cheer for the country.

At the same time, a plantation drive was launched in 75 locations across the city to develop Freedom Parks. Saplings were planted at these locations in multiples of 75, ranging from 75 to 750. There were 750 saplings planted along with 7,500 varieties of flowering and medicinal saplings along Road Number 36, Jubilee Hills.

There will be 12 Freedom Parks each in L B Nagar, Charminar, Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Secunderabad zones, and 15 in Khairatabad. As part of the development of Freedom Parks, tree trunks, benches, walls, and other concrete structures of the parks were painted in tricolor on Wednesday.

K Kavitha took part in a plantation drive at Domalguda, while Cinematography Minister T Srinivas Yadav participated in a program at Jubilee Hills Road Number 36.

There was also a plantation drive at Road Number 36 attended by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar. There were music systems playing patriotic songs in Chacha Nehru Park in Masab Tank, KBR Park in Jubilee Hills, KLN Yadav Park in Sanathnagar, and Indira Park. ‘Gandhi’ was screened for free in 552 theatres across Telangana on Wednesday as well.

India’s 75th independence anniversary

India will commemorate its 75th anniversary of independence on August 15, 2022. The event is called ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’

The overall celebration, which began on March 12, 2022, will last until August 15, 2023.

The government is also running a campaign called ‘Har Ghar Tiranga,’ in which 2030-inch national flags are delivered to every household at a subsidized rate of Rs. 25 each.
