“I am pure cobra”- Mithun Chakraborty as he joins BJP amid Bengal election campaign

With the West Bengal elections nearing its scheduled date, new developments are coming in each day. Putting an end to the rumours surrounding his team up with BJP, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty today joined the Centre’s ruling party that is keeping no stone unturned in replacing Trinamool in the state.

The announcement came during the massive BJP rally held at the Kolkata Brigade Parade Ground that also saw the presence of Prime Miniter Narendra Modi who had come to address the crowd for his campaign in the elections.

Commonly known as “Mithun da” by his fans and the citizens of the state, the Bollywood actor delivered all his popular dialogues, drawing loud cheers from the crowd that had gathered to witness him live.

“I am proud to be a Bengali. I know you love my dialogues,” he said and started reciting his punchlines.

Delivering one of his famous dialogues from “MLA fatakeshto”, a 2006 hit movie, the actor said, “Marbo ekhaney…lash porbay shoshaney (‘I will thrash you here. Your body will be found at the cemetery.)”

He went ahead to formulate another punchline for the election campaign and said amongst wild roars from the audience, “Here is my new dialogue. Ami joldhorao noibele borao noi… ami ekta cobra, ek chobol-ei chhobi (Don’t mistake me for a harmless snake, I am a pure cobra, one strike and you become a photograph.”

The former Trinamool member was wearing a kurta, cap and sunglasses as he accepted the BJP flag and waved it in front of the audience.

“The Prime Minister of the world’s biggest democracy. And I will share the stage with him. I had never dreamt of being a part of such a huge rally. I wished to work for the poorer sections of our society, and that wish will now be fulfilled,” he said.

He remained a crowd favourite and one of the most famous actors in Bengal as he continued entertaining his fans through TV dance reality shows too. The 70-year-old was earlier a Rajya Sabha member from Trinamool and still has a huge fan following in the state.

Following his alleged involvement in the Saradha chit fund case, the “disco dancer” quit Trinamool after 2 years of being a Rajya Sabha member. The Enforcement Directorate had interrogated the actor regarding the Rs. 1.2 crore he was given by the same firm for being a brand ambassador of a certain TV news channel that the group had backed financially. Soon after, he returned the money to them and quit the party citing health issues.

The speculation over Mithun Chakraborty joining BJP had emerged on February 16th after RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat met him at his Mumbai house. There have also been rumours regarding the actor becoming the face of BJP’s nomination for the Chief Minister’s post of West Bengal. Though no clarity has surfaced on this front, many important people are lined up from the BJP side to out throw Mamata’s rule in the state.
