Impressed with Telangana’s sand policy, other States adopting the same: KTR

Industries Minister KT Rama Rao stated that after being impressed with Telangana’s sand policy, other few states, including Andhra Pradesh, were examining the policy and adopting the same.

To guarantee the availability of sand to the people, the State government was arranging it in required quantities at the district level.

The measures taken up by the government were assisting in increasing revenue to the State exchequer, he said in response to a question from BRS MLA Balka Suman in the Assembly on Thursday.

From 2004 to 2014, the revenue generated by the sale of sand in united Andhra Pradesh during the Congress rule was approximately Rs 39 crore, which works out to nearly Rs 4 crore per year.

Under the BRS government, an average revenue of Rs 800 crore was being generated a year through the sale of sand, the Minister said.

Centre’s conspiracies to privatise Singareni will be opposed

KT Rama Rao stated that any attempt by the BJP government at the Centre to privatise the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) would be opposed, and he assured the employees of his full support.

The union government was planning to transform SCCL into a sick unit and hand over the company to a private organization, he said.

“We will oppose all such conspiracies. If required, agitations will be launched along with SCCL employees and political parties,” Rama Rao said in the State Assembly here on Thursday.

The state government has been asking the union government to allocate four coal blocks to SCCL for mining on a nomination basis. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to that effect. Even then, the BJP government was not considering Telangana’s pleas, the Minister said during Question Hour.

Interestingly, the union government assigned blocks to Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation on nomination basis. When the Telangana government requested that blocks be allocated on a nomination basis, the union government directed SCCL to participate in an open auction, he explained.

“This is nothing but the union government’s discrimination and hatred towards Telangana” Rama Rao said.
